Blepharitis

We specialise in the treatment of Blepharitis and eyelid problems which can lead to dry eye symptoms.
Blepharitis is a common and chronic inflammation of the eyelids. It typically affects the eyelash follicles and the glands along the eyelid margins. The condition can be uncomfortable and persistent, so when given a treatment plan, this needs to be consistent to ensure the condition is under control and to prevent flare up.
Symptoms of blepharitis include:
Redness and Swelling: The eyelids may appear red, swollen, or puffy.
Itching or Irritation: The eyes may feel itchy, gritty, or like something is in them.
Crusting: Crusts or scales may form along the eyelid margins, especially upon waking.
Watery Eyes: Excessive tearing can occur due to irritation.
Sensitivity to Light: Some people with blepharitis may be more sensitive to light (photophobia).
Dry Eyes: It can lead to dry eye symptoms due to poor oil secretion from the eyelid glands.
Blepharitis is often associated with other conditions like dry eye syndrome, rosacea, or seborrheic dermatitis.
Management, needs to be consistent and typically involves daily eyelid hygiene, to loosen and eliminate crusts, with a gentle scrub to the base of lashes with special eyelid wipes or gel. Occasionally, antibiotics or steroid eyedrops or ointments are required to reduce inflammation.
Please make an appointment for me to assess your eyes for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
