Cataracts are a very common eye condition, where the lens of the eye gradually changes and becomes cloudy. A lens that turns cloudy, is said to have a cataract, which, in time, becomes gradually worse and vision becomes poorer. This does not hurt.
Unfortunately, age is the main cause, however, smoking is also linked with cataracts along with certain medications, or medical conditions like diabetes.
Symptoms include blurred or cloudy vision, sensitivity to glare, difficulty seeing at night, and seeing halos around lights.
Treatment is surgery, removing the lens and replacing it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL)-a clear, plastic implant.
