Now commonly referred to as Dry Eye Disease has increased significantly in the past few years. Previously the domain of the elderly, especially women, we are now seeing an ever increasing number of school children and students suffering from the symptoms of Dry Eye.
Excessive use of computers and electronic devices have a lot to answer for. Many still suffer despite using recommended lubricants and dry eye drops. The reason for this is often a failure to identify the most important factor that contributes to Dry Eye – The Ocular Tear Film. Tear film hyperosmolarity or an unstable tear film is the most important factor in identifying Dry Eye Disease and determining the treatment strategy. Tear Lab is now the gold standard for identifying a toxic or unstable tear layer. We are the only Optician in Aberdeen area providing this service.
